英語専攻では，英語の運用能力をみがき，英語教育に精通した中学校・高等学校教員の養成を目指します。

主な学修領域

英米文学（English Literature）

一口に「英語で書かれた文学」といっても，時代と国によって大きく異なります。イギリス文学，アメリカ文学 ，アイルランド文学を中心に，さまざまな英文の韻文と散文を読み，時間的空間的に異なる英語を研究することは，読む力を格段に向上させるだけでなく，言葉に対する想像力を高め，多様な文化についての理解力を養うことでもあります。さまざまな地域の文化・歴史・思想について文学を通して多角的に研究すること，これが英米文学の目指しているものです。

In this stream, students have the opportunity to increase their experience with the classics of such great Irish, American and English writers as Yeats, Joyce, Defoe, Swift, Twain and Hawthorne, to name but a few. Our highly qualified and experienced teachers will guide you in your quest in unlocking the secrets of great literature.

英語学（English Linguistics and Philology）

英語とは，どのような言語なのか，その起源と歴史的変遷を学ぶ英語史。音声上の特質について学ぶ音声学。そして，言語の創造的な使用を，背後で支える仕組みについて学ぶ英文法。これらの観点から英語という言語について歴史的，共時的両面から考察し，英語学全般について深く学ぶことを目的とします。

In this stream, students will develop an understanding of the historical origins of English, and how it has been developed and is continuing to be shaped into a productive language of expression. Students will also deepen their understanding of the sound system of English and the underlying knowledge (that is, grammar) that makes creative use of language possible.

英語科教育学（English Education）

さまざまな外国語指導法の中でも，特にコミュニカティブな指導法を十分に修得してから，授業案の立て方を学び，模擬授業を実施して教育実習に備えます。その後，実習での疑問点を解決し，不足している知識や指導法の補完に学修の焦点が当てられます。音声，文法，語彙などの言語項目の習得理論に基づいた指導法，認知処理理論に従った指導法，学習者を生かす指導法，英語能力を正しくとらえる評価法を身に付けることで，堂々と教壇に立てる自信も得られます。

Students learn to become English educators through their efforts in this stream. They will study both the theoretical and practical aspects of English education, ensuring that upon graduation they will be equipped with the necessary knowledge and skills of professional English teachers. During their course, students will also take part in practice teaching sessions, both in class and in affiliated schools in the region, thus gaining first-hand, the skills they will utilize throughout their careers.
