History

Aichi University of Education began as the Aichi Prefectural Academy in 1873, later developing into several Normal Schools over the period of three quarters of a century. In 1949 it became one of the new National Universities consolidating under the name of Aichi Gakugei University all the Normal schools in the area. A period of sustained development began in 1966 when the name Aichi University of Education was adopted. In accordance with the enforcement of the National University Corporation Law, the university has been incorporated as the National University Corporation Aichi University of Education since April, 2004.

As an educational organization to achieve the university’s objective, it offers four types of teacher training programs: those for primary education, secondary education, special support education and school nursing and health education. In addition, it now provides the program for Contemporary Liberal Arts and Sciences, conducting “all-round education” which integrates the principle of liberal arts education and places emphasis on specialized general education. This program consists of the following six courses: Cross-Cultural and Social Studies, Teaching Japanese as a Foreign Language, Social Welfare and Clinical Psychology, Arts and Crafts, Informatics and Communication Technology and Natural Science.
